What does a Physical Therapist do?
The APTA, the national governing body of Physical Therapists, notes that Physical Therapists are licensed health care professionals who help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility – often reducing the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects.

What is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy, also known as physiotherapy, is the use of a detailed physical exam (along with other medical diagnostics when appropriate) and interventions/treatments promoting the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. Common interventions often include the use of biomechanics/kinesiology, manual therapy (soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and joint manipulation), therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, and modalities (electrotherapy and ultrasound). Physical Therapists also work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.

What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment will last 1 hour where we will take a detailed history of your injury/condition followed by an examination.

At Threshold we search for the source of your symptoms and the underlying root cause driving your pain and symptom patterns.  This examination allows us to identify any perpetuating factors that may prolong your recovery.  Treatment involves manual therapy (joint mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue mobilization, and/or dry needling), individualized exercise correction, and education on self-management of your condition.

What can I expect at my follow up appointments?
Follow up visits are scheduled for 30- or 60-minutes and involve re-assessment of your progress followed by one-on-one additional treatment. Please note, we do not believe in watching you perform exercises and instead believe follow up visits are best spent on interventions necessary to facilitate recovery and improve performance.

Do you utilize any other providers in your practice?
The physical therapy practice currently utilizes only Doctors of Physical Therapy for care. We do, however, work closely with the sport and personal trainers of Core Progression to help bridge the gap and help patients reach and exceed your goals.
